The World Curling Championships the women's 1,979 (officially: Royal Bank of Scotland World Women's Curling Championship in 1979 ) was the first to host the World Championships in curling of the ladies. The tournament took place from March 17th to 23rd of that year in the Scottish city of Perth at the Perth Ice Rink . The tournament was called the World Cup , but was not supported by the then International Curling Federation .
The Swiss team celebrated their first world title after a clear final victory over the Swedes.
A round robin tournament was played , which means that everyone competes against everyone else.
