The nature reserve Schilsbachtal with tributaries and hillside forests on the Rursee is located in the municipality of Simmerath , it includes the wooded slopes northeast of Woffelsbach that fall to the Rurtalsperre .

description

In the western part, red beech is predominant, with a small population also sessile oak and sycamore . The soil vegetation is poor in species. As is typical for beech forests, it consists of wire smiths , forest fescue , white grove , wall lettuce and fox's ragwort . In the area around the Woffelsbacher Kirchweg, between Schilsberg and Backesberg, you can find sessile oak forests mixed with hornbeam and sycamore as well as occasional sand birch , beech and mountain ash . The soil vegetation here is typical of acidic oak forests, where wiryweed, blueberry , goldenrod , yellow hollow tooth , meadow quail wheat and common heather grow . Bach north of the mouth of the dam is Schilsbachs in the stream by a well trained Erlen - Auwald accompanied. The Solchbachoberlauf flows through a deeply cut valley overgrown with beech forest. In the north-eastern part of the area, there are again beech stocks. The extensive oak and beech stocks together make up around 80% of the total area of the nature reserve, which is therefore an important area for the preservation of the communities of natural deciduous forests in the Rureifel natural area .
