Schirrmeister

Schirrmeister (anciently also crockery master ) is a term for administrators and supervisors of extensive material such as vehicle fleets and their accessories.

etymology

The name of the crockery master is derived from the term crockery with its various meanings. Historically, the term was mostly used in transport as well as in areas with an agricultural, technical, military, hunting background and also in shipping.

Use of the term in the 20th and 21st centuries

The Schirrmeister (abbr. SchirrMstr ) of a company , a battalion or a regiment is a trained and certified motor vehicle master, often with the rank of sergeant major . This is subordinate to the staff of the staff and supply company , but performs his duty in the staff of the association.

The repair train, InstZug for short, is responsible for repairing the fleet of a military unit and is led by the InstZugführer.
