Key region Velbert / Heiligenhaus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The region in Heiligenhaus and Velbert , which is the world's leading location for locking and security technology, is designated as the key region . Over 70 companies employ 7,000 people here in the development and manufacture of locks and fittings.

history

The small iron industry in the Velbert area emerged from peasant part-time businesses . The oldest evidence of the hardware business in Bergisch Land found in the lifting registers of the monastery are from the early 12th century. First of all, factories were founded in the middle of the 19th century by well-funded merchants . The castle masters, who had an average of 1.52 employees in 1855, then bought simple machines. In this way workshops became manufacturing operations . Some of these traditional companies are:

  • in Heiligenhaus
    • Drove
    • WSS

During the occupation of the Ruhr after the First World War, the export-oriented lock industry was plunged into a deep crisis. The French customs authorities confiscated the books of numerous companies, imposed heavy fines or sealed the factory gates for months. During the Second World War, the metal industry in Velbert was hardly bombed , although it was located between the economic areas of the Rhine , Ruhr and Wuppertal , which is said to be due to the numerous investments made by the American economy.
