The Battle of Shiting ( Chinese 石亭 之 戰 ) took place in 228 between the forces of the Wei Dynasty under Cao Xiu and those of the Wu Dynasty under Lu Xun .
course
The battle was arranged by Sun Quan , the Duke of Wu. In the summer of 228, he caused his subordinate Zhou Fang , the grand administrator of Poyang, to fake a riot and asked Wei General Cao Xiu for help. Cao Xiu was deceived and moved his troops to the city of Huan, while two other armies under the command of Sima Yi and Jia Kui moved eastwards towards Jiangling and Ruxu respectively.
In Shiting near Huan, Wu general Lu Xun surprised Cao Xiu, defeated him and tried to cut off his retreat. He caught up with him at Jiashi Pass in the Dabie Mountains, but Jia Kui came to Cao Xiu's aid and covered his retreat. Lu Xun captured large parts of the enemy equipment, weapons, armor and provisions. With this victory, Sun Quan's northern border on the Yangtze was secured against attacks by the Wei dynasty.
