The subfamily of the short-toed eagle (Circaetinae) belongs to the family of Accipitridae (Accipitridae) and includes the medium to very large species , usually with very broad wings and a big head.
Most species specialize in snakes and lizards as food, the juggler prey on a wide range of vertebrates and also eats carrion. The monkey eagle or Philippine eagle occupies a special position in the group in terms of size and way of life; its membership in this group has only been determined by recent molecular genetic studies. The species of the subfamily live in the temperate and warm parts of the Old World .
