The lock house in Prösen is located on the Elsterwerda-Grödel raft canal, which was opened in 1748 . Once upon a time there was an old thatched house where the lock keeper lived. It was his job to carry out the transit. This process took twelve minutes .

There were four locks on the 21 km long canal (from the Holzhof in Elsterwerda to Grödel on the Elbe) because a height difference of 2.744 m had to be overcome. The lock basins framed with ashlar stones can still be seen, while the old, wooden lock gates have not been there for a long time. However, in June 1993 the restoration of the lock began in the form of the two new lock gates.

In the 18th century , the royal seat of Dresden and the Meissen porcelain factory urgently needed timber and firewood. This wood came from the forests around Finsterwalde , Bad Liebenwerda and from Schraden.

From the Mahlens pond, south of Finsterwalde, the wood was rafted on the raft ditch to Plessa and then on the Elster to the wood yard. The wood from the Schraden also came to the same loading point on the Hauptschradengraben.

With nine or twelve barges, each having a carrying capacity of 500  quintals had, then the wood (there were annually 30,000 yards ) on the channel to Grödel in Riesa towed . The return freight was stones, lime, grain and other goods. The canal was used until 1874.

In order to further expand the leisure and tourism sector, the lock keeper's house was rebuilt directly on the cycle path of the Elbe-Elster Canal. There is an exhibition on the technical monument “Floßkanal”.
