Šluknov Castle
The Šluknov Castle or Schluckenau Castle is located in the north Bohemian town of Šluknov (German Schluckenau ), not far from the market square in a small park.
description
The two-storey renaissance building with a pointed gable roof , surrounded by a park with a castle garden with strange trees, is a typical single-house building - there are no outbuildings here. The city's information and tourism center and a pastry shop are located on the ground floor. The forest museum is on the second floor.
history
The castle was built for Ernst von Schleinitz between 1566 and 1573 . Schluckenau was a stately home; from the end of the 17th century the castle belonged to the Lords of Starschedel . After the Battle of the White Mountain , Otto von Starschedel's goods were confiscated and the Schluckenau estate was sold to Wolfgang von Mansfeld for 122,500 florins . By marriage, the rule later came to the princes of Dietrichstein and then to the counts of Harrach . The latter sold their property in Schluckenau in 1876 to the timber merchant Ernst Grumbt . The Grumbt family owned the castle until 1936, after which it was acquired by Erwein Leopold Maria Alexius Nostitz-Rieneck . After the end of the Second World War, Schluckenau Castle was expropriated and nationalized in 1945.
In 1986 the castle burned out. For financial reasons, the reconstruction work was canceled after 1990, so that the castle remained a ruin without a roof. The reconstruction was carried out between 2005 and 2008 with EU funding. In addition to exhibition and event rooms, there is also an information office for tourists in the building. The park adjoining the castle is now partially used for public events. Since the existence of the cross-border German-Czech five-community community in 2000, the castle has been integrated into the activities of the loose municipal association of the border region. The castle is owned by the town of Šluknov.
Forest Museum
The forest museum ( Lesnické muzeum ) was established by the Middle Forest and Social School ( Střední lesnická škola a Střední odborná škola sociální ) Šluknov on the second floor of the castle and opened on June 27, 2012. Around 200 exhibits, such as saws, clips, measuring tapes, theodolites, barometers and radio devices, which are intended to represent the historical development of forestry, are on display in four themed rooms. The topics of the individual exhibition rooms are "forest work", "meteorological, dendrometric and geodetic devices", "silviculture and forest protection" as well as "logging and secondary use". Most of the exhibits come from the forest school's collections, other exhibits are donations from citizens.
In connection with the exhibition “Historical Forest Uses in Upper Lusatia” in the Upper Lusatian Forest Museum in Sohland on the Spree , both forest museums were networked as part of a project of the Neisse Euroregion . A cross-border hiking trail has been laid between the museums, which leads over 6.5 kilometers from Schluckenau via Neugrafenwalde ( Nové Hraběcí ) and the Schebich to Obersohland.
