Alt Madlitz Castle is a mansion of the Count Finck von Finckenstein . It is located in Alt Madlitz ( Oder-Spree district ).

history

The estate was first mentioned in 1373 as Modelicz . For 200 years, from 1551 to 1751, it belonged to von Wulffen . Kaspar von Wulffen had a simple house made of field stones built here in 1551, which was extended before 1750. The Counts Finck von Finckenstein, an East Prussian family of great importance for the kingdom, bought it in 1751 and thus left East Prussia ( Gilgenburg ) for the first time . Because of his services in the War of the Spanish Succession , Field Marshal Albrecht Konrad Finck von Finckenstein (1660–1735) was raised to the rank of imperial count by Emperor Leopold I in 1710 .

In addition to Finckenstein Castle, Alt Madlitz Castle soon became one of the company's headquarters. The simple mansion was expanded in the 18th century by Friedrich Ludwig Karl Finck von Finckenstein into a three-story country palace. The farm buildings erected at that time are now again serving their original purpose. The first English landscape park in Brandenburg was also created here at this time .

In 1945 the estate was expropriated as part of the land reform and the Counts Finck von Finckenstein were expelled from Brandenburg . The GDR used the palace building as a kindergarten . However, since the necessary maintenance was not carried out, the masonry began to crumble and the ground floor was no longer habitable since the 1970s. Nevertheless, some architectural highlights, such as the stucco work and the historic staircase, have been preserved inside.

Since the German reunification , Alt Madlitz Castle has been owned by the Finck von Finckenstein family again. Karl Wilhelm Graf Finck von Finckenstein (born 1923 in Alt Madlitz) had it extensively restored, the park reconstructed by the garden architect Clemens Alexander Wimmer and resumed the farm (farm shop, hunting and agriculture). There is a café in the inspector's house on the edge of the landscape park.

Karl Wilhelm Graf Finck von Finckenstein died on July 5, 2010 in Hamburg. The burial took place on July 19, 2010 in the family cemetery in Alt Madlitz. Then his stepson Hans-Detlef Bösel inherited the estate.
