The ruins of Castle Auras ( Polish Zamek w Urazie ) are located in Uraz (German Auras ) in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in Poland. Because of its triangular shape, the castle was considered one of the most peculiar castle buildings in Silesia .

history

In the place of today's castle there was a ducal castellany , which is documented for the year 1203. A castellan has been recorded for the year 1250 . After 1319 the core structure of the castle was built on a three-sided floor plan. The two meter thick walls were made of field stone and lawn iron stone . Inside there were three rooms per floor with a ribbed vault and a central pillar. To the southeast was a walled courtyard. The system at that time was fortified by moats and three outworks that are no longer visible.

After the death of Duke Heinrich VI. The Duchy of Breslau , to which Auras had belonged since 1248/51, fell to the Crown of Bohemia in 1335 as a settled fiefdom . She installed Conrad von Borschnitz as burgrave . Around 1440 Auras was in possession of the Czirn ( Tschirn ) grove . 1466 fief of the Czech King George of Podebrady his vassals Christoph von Skopp with Auras, who had converted the castle. From 1492 to 1640 the castle was owned by the von Jörger family, who probably built a stair tower on the north side at the end of the 15th century. After several changes of ownership, the gentlemen von Logau and the Italian gentlemen de Campo followed. In 1744 Prince Heinrich of Prussia acquired the facility.

From 1810 the barons von Kochtizky had the medieval defensive walls and the gate construction demolished. As a result, the castle lost its castle-like appearance. Further renovations took place from 1839 when Eleonore Freiin von Lüttwitz (1755–1834), widow of the Prussian State Minister Friedrich von Schuckmann , acquired the castle. In the middle of the 19th century it was rebuilt in the neo-renaissance style . The last German owner was Hans-Georg Freiherr Hentschel von Gilgenheimb .

After Auras and almost all of Silesia fell to the People's Republic of Poland in 1945 as a result of World War II , the castle, which had been intact until then, fell into disrepair. It has been privately owned since 1989.
