Droß Castle

The Castle Droß , formerly Castle Droß called one is listed castle in the municipality Droß in the district of Krems-Land in Lower Austria .

history

In 1156 "Ruediger de Drozze" was first mentioned in a document. The St. Georg castle chapel is mentioned as early as 1135. In 1295 the castle became sovereign. In 1427 Albrecht V gives the castle to Georg Mühlfelder as a fief , subject to church patronage, in view of the services rendered in the defense against the Hussites . King Ladislaus Postumus enfeoffed his descendants with the entire Droß castle, again with the exception of the Droß church patronage.

From 1604 the owners changed frequently (including the Counts Abensperg and Traun ). In 1671 a fire damaged the castle, which was rebuilt in 1726. In 1884 the castle came to Wilhelm Ritter v. Gutmann , whose family remained owners until after 1945. Then follow the Österr. Bundesforste and ultimately the current owner, Franz Haubenberger.

description

The castle is located on the southern edge of the village, on a raised terrace on the road to Senftenberg . The current complex is located on the site of a medieval castle that had to give way to the four-wing complex. Today's appearance goes back to a baroque redesign around 1726. The east side, which can be seen as the main front, is accentuated by a gate tower with an onion helmet over the entrance, the 4 corners are accentuated by building-high, over-corner façade towers with curved pointed roofs.
