history

The hill, known today as Schlossberg, was built on with a castle before the castle was built to secure the once important Danube crossing. After several changes of land, the Erbach pawn loan was transferred to Hans von Paumgarten from an Augsburg patrician family in 1534 . The construction of the castle that is visible today was started in 1550 by Hans Georg von Paumgarten and completed around 1555.

In 1612 Hans Ludwig von Ulm became lord of Erbach. A pleasure garden that no longer exists was added after the Thirty Years' War . From the 18th century onwards, there were hardly any alterations, as the barons of Ulm lived in Günzburg , so that today's external appearance corresponds to the middle of the 16th century.

Like Schloss Warthausen , the castle is owned by the family.

buildings

The castle is closely related to the patrician architecture of the cities, with the stepped gables and pitched roofs in particular indicating this. Access is via a drawbridge followed by a gate . The following castle courtyard with a draw well is surrounded by stables and farm buildings. At the end of the great hall is the baroque palace chapel .

Several rooms can be reached via the stairwell. The renaissance room was last changed in 1884. In addition to it, the Small Smoking Room , the Maria Theresa Salon , the Brown Salon , the Red Salon and a clergy salon are worth mentioning.

A part of the premises is used by a restaurant, the cellar of the castle as a theater .
