Gröditzberg Castle

The Gröditzberg Castle ( Polish Pałac w Grodźcu ) is a baroque castle in Grodziec (German Groditz ) in the rural community Zagrodno ( Adelsdorf ) in złotoryja county ( district Goldberg ) in the Province of Lower Silesia in Poland. Historically it belonged to the Duchy of Liegnitz .

history

Below the 389 m high basalt cone with the Gröditzburg , imperial count Johannes Wolfgang (also Hans Wolf ) von Frankenberg on Alt Warthau , owner of the Gröditz estate since 1708, built the new Gröditzberg castle between 1718 and 1727 . The design probably comes from the architect Martin Frantz or Johann Blasius Peintner (1673–1732). After the transition to Prussia in 1742, it belonged to the Prussian Field Marshal Friedrich Leopold von Geßler from 1749–1753 . Other owners were, among others, the Counts Hochberg auf Fürstenstein from 1800–1823 , then the banker Wilhelm Christian Benecke von Gröditzberg , and from 1893–1899 Henckel von Donnersmarck , followed by the imperial envoy Willibald von Dirksen . Heir in 1928 was his son, the diplomat Herbert von Dirksen , who lived at the castle until 1945.

After Silesia passed to Poland at the end of the war in 1945, the Dominium was nationalized as a state- owned agricultural production cooperative. The castle initially served as workers' accommodation, later apartments were set up in it. Because of the poor state of construction, the first repair work was carried out in 1980, including securing the ceiling of the ballroom. Although the palace was privatized after the political change in 1989, the complex continued to deteriorate. After 2001, security measures were initiated and the mansard roof was renovated.

Structure and surroundings

The building is designed with three wings as "Palais entre court et jardin" with a south-facing inner courtyard to which a two-armed access ramp leads. The three-aisled passage hall, which is based on the works of Lucas von Hildebrandt, is remarkable . Above is a ballroom with a painted mirror vault. The representative middle risalit has a composite pilaster structure and curved window roofing in the bel étage .

Instead of the original baroque garden, a landscape park was created at the beginning of the 19th century, in which a viewing tower was built around 1900.
