The freely accessible castle ruins of the former spur castle of the Lords of Hausen are located north of the village, spectacularly high up on a rock in the Danube Valley . The difference in altitude between castle and Danube level is almost 200 meters (castle approx. 792 meters above sea level, Danube valley 593 meters above sea level). At a dizzying height, the gable wall of the ruin is a striking landmark of Hausen im Tal in the Upper Danube Nature Park . In the village of Hausen in the valley is the church of St. Nicholas with epitaphs of the Lords of Hausen. Until Sixt von Hausen († 1549), the castle was the seat of the Hausen lordship of the same name .

history

Hausen Castle 1755

Hausen Castle was built in four phases from the 11th century onwards. In 1094 the castle was first mentioned in the possession of the noble family von Hausen . In 1209 Ramsbergers name themselves Ritter von Hausen after the castle . The castle is being expanded under them. In the 14th and 15th centuries, further renovations and extensions were made. From 1648 on there were several changes of ownership. Previously described as "a state building", demolition began in 1813.

In 2007, renovation of the gable wall was urgently required. Since this only wall that was preserved by the castle threatened to collapse, the ruin was extensively renovated for 50,000 euros by the Upper Danube Valley Ruin Protection Campaign . The scaffolding on the precipice and the masonry work presented a challenge for everyone involved.

It was named " Monument of the Month February 2008" by the Monument Foundation Baden-Württemberg .

investment

The original overall system of lock Hausen is composed of the core castle , the Palas , the hall structure, the keep , drawbridge and Vorwerk, a stone arch bridge, a waiting tower and an inner and outer lock garden.

Humpback blocks can still be seen from the keep. They testify to a pentagonal tower.

The grounds, including the castle, are privately owned by the Douglas aristocratic family and are maintained by the Count's Douglas Forestry Office.
