The Maupas Castle is located in the town of Morogues in the French department of Cher in the midst of a wine region. It was built in the 15th century for the governor Berry and came into the possession of the Maupas family in the 18th century: Antoine Agard, who belonged to the guard of Louis XV. belonged, was ennobled by the king in 1725 and has since carried the title of Marquis de Maupas. Even under Napoleon , the family that still lives in the castle today stood out.

The family motto is engraved in the gable above the gate of the donjon : “Habiter c'est servir” (English: “ To live means to serve”). On the building itself, on the park side, a feudal, crenellated tower supports the effect of the high chimneys and the stone cross-window facade. Many of the castle's furnished rooms are open to visitors, including the bedroom, salon, playroom and kitchen. For example, you can see a collection of 900 plates made of old earthenware and tapestries from Aubusson . The monumental stone staircase of the southern pavilion tower from the 18th century has been registered as a Monument historique since July 1992 . At the end, visitors can also try the Beaujolais from the small “Domaine du Maupas”.

The extensive park of the castle was restored in the 20th century by the architect and landscaper of the city of Bourges , Fernand Rolin .
