The castle ruin Neuravensburg , later called Neuravensburg Castle , is the ruin of a high medieval hill castle at 533  m above sea level. NN high ridge ( Drumlin ) above the Upper Argen high above Neuravensburg , a current district of Wangen im Allgäu in the Ravensburg district ( Baden-Württemberg ). During the 17th century the ruins of the castle were converted into a castle, which was released for demolition from 1837. Today only the impressive keep remains from the facility, it is the landmark of Neuravensburg.

history

The castle was built at the end of the 12th century by the Counts of Argengau , mentioned in 1271 and destroyed in the Peasants' War in 1525 . From 1614 to 1617 the castle was rebuilt by Abbot Bernhard Müller of the St. Gallen Monastery and expanded into a palace . In 1836 the castle was sold for demolition and partially demolished from 1837 to 1845. In 1913 and 1962, security work was carried out on the ruins of the keep . In 1992 the city of Wangen bought the castle ruins and had further renovation work carried out from 1995 to 1996. In addition to the ruins of the keep with a viewing platform , which is also accessible from the inside, the foundation walls of the palace have also been preserved. The entrance to the castle ruins is on Hagmühleweg. After it was founded in 1987, the Neuravensburg Castle and Heritage Association took on responsibility for maintaining and researching the castle complex .

The castle was named after the imperial ministers of Ravensburg who ruled in the 13th century .
