As early as 1265, a princely cattle yard was mentioned on the site of today's castle, which was probably built in 1232 by Duke Friedrich II . He was in 1442 under King Friedrich III. further developed. In the same year, the Wundschuher ponds in the Kaiserwald were created. In the course of the 16th century, the estate was lent to various noble families by the sovereigns. In 1609, Sebastian Speidl acquired the estate called “Viehofen” and expanded it into a noble residence called “Neuhofen” with a truce . Between 1643 and 1780, the property was owned by the Counts of Dietrichstein , who expanded it into a so-called "new floor". In 1794 the estate came to Josef Edler von Leonarde. Since 1804 the castle has belonged to the Counts of Enffans d'Avernas , who also had their own jurisdiction until 1848. In 1808 they also acquired Freybühel Castle in Hengsberg . Between 1804 and 1809 a third floor was added to the Neuschlosser single-wing building.

description

The castle is a three-story, 8: 4-axis building block that is covered by a hipped roof . The single-wing building is designed in the style of an early baroque manor house . The two upper floors are combined by pilaster strips . A simple round portal with a skylight grille from the second quarter of the 18th century and a door from 1866 leads into the interior of the castle. Inside you will find a wrought iron staircase from the first quarter of the 19th century.

The castle chapel was built in the 19th century. It bears a bell cast by Konrad Seysser in 1640.

To the south of the palace there is a court of honor and a walled park. The park has a total of five baroque portals with wrought iron bars. The park portal south of the palace portal is also decorated with stone putti in the style of Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt . On the access road to the castle stand two stone statues of Saints Florian and Johannes Nepomuk from the middle of the 18th century, designed in the manner of Philipp Jakob Straub .

The castle also has a stable building, an elongated, three-aisled hall . This hall is spanned by a groin vault resting on rectangular pillars .
