Pressel Castle

The as Castle Pressel designated mansion of the former local Erbrichtergutes is a listed building in the Dübener Heide lying district Pressel the community Laußig ( Nordsachsen in the Free State of Saxony ). It can be found a few hundred meters north of the actual town center and was the seat of the nature park administration and a local tourist information office until 2011.

history

Günther Gereke (1932)

The former manor house of the former Erbbrichtgut in Pressel is also known as Pressel Castle . The building was built in 1910 and 1911 for Günther Gereke (1893–1970), a lawyer who was born in Gruna and later a member of the Reichstag , whose family subsequently lived in Pressel. His om architectural style is assigned to the epoch of historicism and art nouveau .

After the end of the Second World War, the castle served as the headquarters of the Red Army . Resettled families from eastern Germany later used it as a residential building. During the GDR era , the local elementary school was housed in the castle, but it was closed after the 1996/97 school year.

Then in 1997 the office of the Folk High School was housed here. A year later, the Dübener Heide nature park moved into the castle with its office and a local tourist information office. The nature park finally relocated the office to Bad Düben in 2011 , where the nature park house in the city center had since been reconstructed.

Since then, the castle has been largely unused and efforts have been made for a number of years to obtain funding, which was approved in spring 2017. With the funds of around 1 million euros flowing from the “Vitale Dorfkerne” funding program, the historic building is to be renovated and the park-like outdoor facilities restored so that the entire area can be turned into a public meeting place and event location.

Building description

Pressel Castle with outdoor facilities in March 2017

It is a two-storey, villa-like plastered building with a clinker base and a crooked hip roof covered with beaver tail, in the north of the town center and thus outside the actual estate . On the right there is an octagonal tower with a pointed tent roof . At the front there is a central projection with arched windows and a small vestibule with a curved hipped roof . There is a porch-like vestibule in the entrance area on the garden side.

At the rear of the building, a large side projection with a round bay window defines the view. The house is equipped with an original wrought iron banister and contemporary doors.

Overall, the architecture of the building gives it the character of a hunting lodge. Like the ensemble of buildings in the Erbrichtgut , a few hundred meters south in the town center, the facility is now a listed building by the State of Saxony.
