history

The four-wing complex, which has grown around a Romanesque keep, has an arcade courtyard . It is surrounded by a partially drained moat. Initially the castle was probably the seat of Alram and Egino von Url. It was built in the 12th century. It was documented in 1277 that Abbot Heinrich von Admont had walls and ditches renewed. The castle was pledged to the diocese of Freising in 1298 . From 1557 to 1587, it was converted into a Renaissance castle by Georg and Wilhelm Seemann von Mangern. A brisk change of ownership followed, including the Steyr councilor family Strasser von und zu Gleyss and the Geyer von Osterburg. Relatively related, the castle was acquired in 1621 by Countess Katharina von Losenstein. The arcades in the courtyard were built with it. The palace was partially redesigned in Baroque style by the imperial counts of Windischgrätz, who were the rulers from 1682. Some structural changes were made in 1845 with Freiherr von Schönewitz. In 1851, Count Artur von Ségur-Cabanac bought the castle and it remained in family ownership until 1948. The castle was restored from 1992, then owned by the Lugmair family and acquired by the market town in 1999 and serves as a municipal and registry office and for events.
