Taxinge Castle (also: Taxinge-Näsby Castle) is located in the Swedish municipality of Nykvarn , which is part of the Stockholm County and the historical Södermanland County . It is located on a headland that juts out into Lake Mälaren . The two-storey building was erected between 1807 and 1813 by the mining councilor Anders von Wahrendorff based on plans by the architect Carl Christoffer Gjörwell . The free-standing side wings are a bit older. The extensive park as well as the greenhouse and several pleasure houses, including a Chinese pavilion, are mainly from Wahrendorff's works.

The estate was first mentioned in a document from 1281, in which King Magnus Ladulås testified that his brother, Duke Erik , had donated land to the cathedral in Strängnäs . In 1481 Gut Taxinge became an outpost of Gripsholm Castle , which at that time was Sten Sture the Elder. Ä. belonged to. After that it was a property of the Crown for a long time. It was not until 1681 that Gut Taxinge was detached from royal property by Captain Johan von Westphal and converted into the so-called Frälsegut in 1685 (tax-exempt property as compensation for military service). In 1755 the wholesaler Gustav Kierman bought Gut Taxinge, who left it to his brother-in-law, General Johan Didrik Duvall.

The castle builder Anders von Wahrendorff bought Taxinge in 1795. After his son, Hofmarschall Martin von Wahrendorff, the castle was changed by inheritance and marriage between different noble families. Shortly before the castle was bought by the Handelsbank in 1923 , it belonged to Lieutenant Count Knut Arvid Posse, a relative of the Prime Minister Count Arvid Posse . The bank sold Taxinge Castle in 1928 to the horse breeder Ernst Sjögren, after whose death in 1969 it was taken over by the municipality of Södertälje before it went to the municipality of Nykvarn in 1999.

Anders von Wahrendorff's brother-in-law, the industrialist Holterman from Forsby in the municipality of Österåker , had determined in his will from 1826 that his art collection should be moved to Taxinge Castle after his death, which it did.

Today conferences are held in the castle and there is a restaurant and a café that is known nationwide for its large selection of pies and cakes.

At Castle Taxinge the film was Cries and Whispers by Ingmar Bergman recorded, was the 1973 premiere.
