history

The castle was built as a successor to the high medieval Tennenlohe Castle , but nothing has survived from it. It was located immediately southwest of today's castle on a low spur of the terrain above the hat ditch. The castle was owned by the Lords of Tennenlohe during the 14th century and served as their ancestral seat. In the same century, the seat came to the Lords of Brauneck from Großgründlach . They were followed in 1345 by Ullrich Haller von Kalchreuth .

This building was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War and replaced by a new building in 1690 by the Peller von Schoppersdorf family . The castle came to the Volckamer von Kirchensittenbach after the Peller died out . Between 1777 and 1782 the castle was given its present appearance by Jacob Gottlieb Volckamer . The building has been used as a restaurant since 1860.

Building description

The castle is a free-standing sandstone block building with a mansard roof , a small flight of stairs leads to the entrance portal. Windows and doors today only show simple decorative elements, the corners of the building are emphasized by flat pilasters . The rooms on the ground floor and on the upper floors still show stucco decorations with late rocaille ornamentation. A staircase with a carved railing leads to the upper floors.

Attached is a barn with a mansard and half-hip roof from the 18th century. Both buildings, including the sandstone pillars of the entrance and the castle wall, are under monument protection.
