The Schlossberg is a 584 meter high mountain in the northern Vosges in the French department of Lower Alsace . It is located about six kilometers southwest of Saverne ( German Zabern ).
Castles
The Schlossberg has three castles close to each other on its elongated summit , which were built in the Middle Ages on three red sandstone rocks and today only exist as ruins . From south to north there are Groß-Ochsenstein (also Great Castle ), Klein-Ochsenstein (also Small Castle ) and Wachelheim , which are summarized under the name Burg Ochsenstein . The systems are connected and accessible by stairs carved into the rock.
Noble family
The noble family Ochsenstein came from Castle Ochsenstein , who established the regional rule of Ochsenstein in the Middle Ages .
