The Prunn Castle is a nature reserve in Riedenburg in the Lower Bavarian district of Kelheim in Bavaria .

location

The nature reserve (NSG) is located about 4.2 kilometers east of Riedenburg. It is named after Prunn Palace, located in the NSG . It is part of the nature park Altmühltal , the landscape conservation area protection zone Altmühltal Nature Park , the Fauna-Flora-Habitat -region dry slopes in the lower Altmühltal with Laaberleiten and Galgental and the EU bird sanctuary -region rocks and hillside forests in the Altmühl, Naab-, Laber- and Danube Valley .

description

The approximately 77 hectare area is a largely forest-free extreme location. Together with the Klamm and Kastlhang nature reserve on the opposite side of the valley, the slopes of the Altmühltal are fully protected at this altitude. For thousands of years, the rock has been a refuge for low-competitive and drought-bearing plants. Together they form rare plant communities that are worth protecting, such as the steppe heather forest and the dry grassland on which numerous insects live. The highly specialized plants in these extreme locations can hardly recover after damage and therefore require special protection. The white sedum plant , gray cress and field cricket can be found here .

Geotope

The distinctive reef limestone rock on which the castle stands has been designated by the Bavarian State Office for the Environment as an important geotope Castle Rock Prunn N von Nusshausen (273R006). The rocks were formed in the Upper Jurassic in the Malm delta and Epsilon. The higher parts probably reach into the Malmzeta. The rocks made of plump rock limestone near Prunn are among the most important landscape- shaping elements of the lower Altmühltal.

The nature reserve was designated on November 1, 1956.
