Schnelles Glück is a documentary film by the DEFA Studio for Documentaries by Petra Tschörtner from 1989 .

action

The camera shows the hall with the cash registers of the Karlshorst harness racing track in Berlin and turns to the pensioner Herta Rogau behind one of these betting counters. While the racecourse visitors place their bets, she tells how she got this job. Fifteen years ago, she got a tip from a friend of her daughter that she could earn some holiday pay on top of her pension at the racetrack. Herta applies, is immediately instructed at a counter and is employed as a cashier on the very first day. She still likes the atmosphere in the hall and that all the people are friendly and happy. She herself has never bet because it's all a matter of luck and you can't get really rich with it, she says.

At the beginning of every race, the hall is completely emptied, as all race track visitors are on and in front of the grandstands to watch the exciting fights of the sulky drivers. Herta uses the time to settle the bets placed with her and tells about the various motivations of her customers. After the end of a race, the hall in front of the betting counter fills up again immediately, as some place new bets and others want to collect their winnings.
