Architecture and history

The company was founded in 1887 and was located on Braunschweiger Straße in Sudenburg. In the years 1905/1906 the buildings still preserved today were built according to plans by the architect Peter Schneider . A representative manufacturer's villa was built on the eaves facing the street. The manufacturing building was built to the north behind the villa.

The two-storey plastered villa is characterized by a risalit and bay window . The side gable facing the east is designed as a broken gable. The asymmetrical facade is enlivened by different window formats and is adorned with geometric shapes in the Art Nouveau style , with red brick-faced surfaces and plastered light areas alternating. The villa is covered by a hipped roof . On the side of the villa originally there was a garden with a fountain .

The actual production building is designed as a simple elongated red brick building with a ground floor, upper floor and attic. The facade is provided with an economical light plaster structure. The building is covered with a flat gable roof . The original design provided for an eighteen-axle version. The originally wrought-iron windows could only be partially opened to the outside. The ceilings inside the building were made with I-beams , hollow stones and prestressed concrete and supported by wrought iron columns. A chimney was integrated into the building . A total of 71 jobs, 53 for women and 18 for men, were planned in the building. In addition to production rooms, packing and storage areas were also planned on the ground floor. A total of 23 women and 5 men should work here. In addition to the office, the upper floor also provided rooms for chocolate production, cooking, roasting and the drying chamber. Here should be the jobs of 30 women and 13 men. The bakery with a small oven and storage rooms were located in the attic. Additional light fell into the attic through two lanterns placed on the roof.

The ground floor housed behind a large centrally arranged gate a Locomobile Company R. Wolf AG .

Schondorff & Curio produced sweets. The brands sold included Elb chocolate , Frappant chocolate , Lugano chocolate , Alpine milk chocolate , Frauenstolz chocolate , FF gingerbread , Liegnitzer bombs and macaroons . From 1932 to 1949 the company Danneil & Kögel, Gesellschaft für biscuit and waffle production mbH, used the production facility. From 1947 the Karl Kaufmann liqueur factory also had a production facility here. In 1952 the Elbröwer candy factory moved into the facility. After 1990 the factory building was temporarily used as a club factory . From the end of the 20th century, however, the facility was empty. In the 21st century, the villa was renovated and the factory was converted into a residential building.

The factory is listed as a historical building under registration number 094 71102 in the monument register for Magdeburg .

The villa is considered to be formative for the street scene.
