As a carpenter's Gothic , the equipment elements created in the neo-Gothic z. B. denotes altars and pulpits of churches.

style

The term was initially used disparagingly for church furniture that imitated the Gothic style . The term plug Gothic was also used. The objects, such as altars, pulpits, communion and church pews and organ prospectuses are made up of flat basic elements that were created by carpenters and on which elaborate carvings were then attached. These elements are usually lavishly framed and partially decorated with gold leaf .

In the 1950s and 1960s, many pieces of furniture of this type were removed and destroyed during the “purification”, ie the removal of elements that were foreign to the style in the course of the preservation of monuments and the restoration of the churches. Andreas Menrad describes this procedure in terms of monument preservation as thoughtless vandalism .
