Shoe maker

The shoe shop in Germany is a nationally recognized training occupation by the Vocational Education Act . In contrast to the shoemaker , the industrial production of shoes is in the foreground of the work of the shoe manufacturer .

Duration of training and structure

The training period to become a shoe maker is usually three years. The training takes place at the training company and vocational school . The job is structured as a mono job .

Work areas

Shoe manufacturers use industrial manufacturing methods to produce all types of footwear. They select leather or synthetic materials as well as other materials and supplies, cut and punch parts of the upper and the bottom , straighten the upper and manufacture women's, men's and children's shoes from the individual parts. But they also manufacture mountain and hiking boots, riding boots and safety shoes . If necessary, decorative seams are attached to the shoes produced in this way before the products are made ready for sale and dispatch.

Credit for vocational training

In 2010 the apprenticeship shoe and leather goods stepper was modernized. Since 2011 there has been a new apprenticeship with the title of specialist for leather processing . Apprentices who have completed their final exams in this new profession have the opportunity to continue their training as a shoe maker in the second and third year of training.
