The Schulze-Delitzsch-Haus is an office building in the Bonn district of Gronau , which was built in 1953/54. It was the seat of the Federal Association of German Volksbanks and Raiffeisenbanks (BVR) until 2001 and is still used by them. The building is located in the center of the federal district on Heussallee (house number 5) at the corner of Schlegelstraße.

history

The office building was created as a joint new building of the "German Cooperative Association" (DGV) and the "Central Association of Cooperative Wholesale and Foreign Trade" (until October 1953 "Central Association of Cooperative Wholesale and Foreign Trade for Food and Beverage"), which was located in Bonn in 1952 had settled. The Bonn architect Wilhelm Denninger was commissioned to plan and design the new building in 1953 , and construction work began that same year. On March 23, 1954, the keys were handed over in the presence of Federal President Theodor Heuss . It was the fourth “Schulze-Delitzsch-Haus” in the history of the DGV, named after Hermann Schulze-Delitzsch , one of the founding fathers of the German cooperative system. In the course of 1954, the “Auditing Company of Commercial Cooperatives”, previously based in Stuttgart , also moved into the Schulze-Delitzsch-Haus. This was the first time that the main organizations, associations and departments of the commercial cooperative system in Germany were housed in a permanent office community. In 1972, as a successor to the DGV, the “Federal Association of German Volksbanks and Raiffeisenbanks” was founded, which also took its seat in the Schulze-Delitzsch-Haus.

On March 1, 1954, the first press liaison office of the High Authority of the European Coal and Steel Community ("Montanunion"), founded three years earlier, was opened in one of the member states in the Schulze-Delitzsch-Haus . As a tenant, it took up just under 50 m² of the office space in the house. The office had the task of informing the public about the Coal and Steel Community and its policies as well as informing the High Authority about public opinion in the member country. In 1958 the office moved within Bonn and later developed to represent the European Commission . On July 2, 2014, the Schulze-Delitzsch-Haus was added to the “ Weg der Demokratie ” historical circular route as a “historical location” in memory of the original location of the office , and a memorial plaque was unveiled on site as part of this circular route.

As a result of the relocation of the government seat to Berlin (1999), the Federal Association of German Volksbanks and Raiffeisenbanks moved its headquarters there in 2001, but continues to use the Schulze-Delitzsch-Haus. It is currently the seat of the “Employers' Association of German Volksbanks and Raiffeisenbanks”, an organization affiliated to the BVR. The building is owned by “Schulze-Delitzsch-Haus eG ”.

architecture

The office building consists of a rectangular three- storey block with a recessed attic and two two-storey transverse wings assigned to it. The entrance is on the left side of the street front and is highlighted by a canopy and a recess in the facade. The wings are two flush tapped .
