Schulzes Ragwurz ( Ophrys schulzei ) is a species of the genus Ragwurzen ( Ophrys ) and thus of the orchid family. It blooms from April to May.

features

This herbaceous perennial plant has two ovoid-spherical tubers as persistence organs and reaches heights of growth between 25 and 65 cm. There are scale leaves at the base of the stem . Four to five non-rosetted leaves are found in the lower half of the stem and one or two bracts higher up.

The loose inflorescence is elongated and includes four to twelve flowers . The lower bracts are slightly longer than the ovaries . The strongly backward-pointing sepals are pink-purple in color, while the broad, triangular petals appear pink. The central lobe of the strongly three-lobed and hairy lip is colored maroon .

Location and distribution

This orchid prefers poor meadows, light oak forests and bushes with fresh, chalky soil at an altitude of 500 to 1700 meters above sea level. This species is found in southeastern Anatolia . The distribution area extends to the west to the Turkish and Syrian parts of the Amanus Mountains . Finds in Lebanon , Iraq and Iran were also reported.
