The Schupanowa ( Russian Жупанова ) is a 242 km long tributary of the Pacific Ocean in the east of the Russian peninsula Kamchatka . Above the confluence of the Prawaja Schupanowa the river is called Levaya Schupanowa ( Russian Левая Жупанова , "Left Schupanowa").

River course

The Schupanowa runs in the north of the Jelisowski Rajons . Its headwaters are located at an altitude of around 1100  m in a small crater 15 km west of the Unana volcano. From there it flows 170 km in a predominantly southerly direction along the eastern flank of the Vostotschny ridge ("east ridge"). At river kilometer 104 the Prawaja Schupanowa ("Right Schupanowa") meets the river from the left. After another 30 kilometers, the Schupanowa reaches the northern foothills of the 2923  m high Schupanowski volcano and turns to the east. It eventually reaches the east coast of Kamchatka, where it forms an estuary . The estuary is in the south of the Kronotsky Bay . The catchment area of the Schupanowa covers 6980 km². It extends in the northeast to the Unana and Taunschiz volcanoes .

Pravaya Schupanova

The Prawaja Schupanowa rises at an altitude of about 600  m between the volcanoes Karymski and Maly Semjatschik . It flows in an arc - initially to the north, then to the west and finally to the south. After 67 km of flow it reaches Levaya Schupanowa, which comes from the northwest. The catchment area of Prawaja Schupanowa covers an area of 823 km².
