List of rose varieties

The 'Shropshire Lass' rose is a pale pink, single-flowering shrub rose that was introduced to the UK by David CH Austin in 1968 . The rose was bred from a cross of the light pink tea hybrid 'Mme Butterfly' and the white albarose 'Mme Legras de St. Germain'. The 'Shropshire Lass' rose variety was one of the first English roses to have an albarose as a parent.

The tall, highly branched rose variety 'Shropshire Lass' forms a compact, strong shrub. The rose plant grows to 245 cm high and 185 cm wide. The stronger climbing shoots can be pulled into a climbing rose .

The individually, sometimes arranged in small clusters, light pink to light lemon yellow colored flowers of 8 to 15 petals form a flat, semi-double flower about 12 cm in size. After blooming, the golden yellow stamens become visible in the middle of the loosely arranged flower. The rose has lush, medium green, matt, glossy, pointed foliage. The rose is characterized by an intense myrrh scent , which is typical of old roses .

The rose that blooms once is hardy ( USDA climate zone 4 to 10). It blooms profusely in early summer and forms decorative rose hips in autumn . The rose variety is extremely resistant to the known rose diseases . The rose is suitable for background planting of flower beds, greening walls, pergolas, rose arches and as a solitary shrub.

The rose cultivar 'Shropshire Lass' is in many Rosarien and gardens of the world, including in the Rose Garden on the island of Mainau , on Rose Island in the mountain park in Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe , in the Rose Garden of Alnwick Castle , in the Chicago Botanic Garden and the Rosarium Petrovic shown .

Naming

The name of the rose breed pays homage to the Shropshire county where David Austin lived and grew the English roses.
