The Schwarzen Graben is a 25.04 km long river with the code number 2792. The stream flows from Drüpt in a north-westerly direction past the Menzelen in the direction of Unterbirten and flows into the Old Rhine in the Bislicher Insel nature reserve . On the way several other streams flow into the Black Trench.

The lowland complex is rich in structure; it is predominantly characterized by grassland, hedges and head trees .

A project is currently being launched which provides for the discharge of rainwater from Borth via existing ditches, an overflow to the Black Ditch and the creation of trickling areas. In addition to flood protection , the aim is also natural development and an increase in the quality of life.

The black trench is within the conservation area, Schwarzer Graben / Borthsche Ley .
