particularities

Former clay pit of a brick factory

The Black Lake in Garbsen , district of Berenbostel, is a former clay pit and now a bathing lake that is also suitable for divers . The lake is now part of the recreation area Garbsener city park and is just off the for bike rides designed cycle path Green ring on the route Kwidzyn -Garbsen- Seelze in the Hanover region .

history

In the course of industrialization , the economic upswing in the cities and the associated lively construction activity, the demand for building materials rose rapidly in the 19th century. Because of the rich clay deposits found in the area around Berenbostel, several brickworks settled there in quick succession .

On the site of the later Garbsener city parks of in the early days took the German Empire in 1885 as GmbH , founded Hannoversche Dampfziegelei even Hannoversche steam -Ziegelei called their operation, which there up to the year 1966 their earthen goods produced.

After the former clay pit had been flooded, the Hannover Diving Club was able to use the Black Lake as a club and practice water. The divers share the use of the lake with the fishing club Berenbostel.

The Black Lake is considered to be the nucleus of the city park in Garbsen, which was created in 1984.

Similar to the Berenbosteler See , which is also located on the Green Ring, the Black Lake, which is now filled with water, is a preserved testimony to the clay processing in Berenbostel. As one of the last elements of the former industrial use on the site, the ruins of a former ring kiln can be found in the predominantly natural park landscape of the Garbsen city park. The preserved vault of the ring furnace developed into an important “ biotope for the protection of species and habitats”, which is used as a roost by bats , among other things .

One of the surviving evidence of industrial clay processing is the formerly neighboring brick building of the Hanoverian steam brickworks, which was later used as a furniture store on today's property by Möbel Hesse.
