The city park Garbsen is in the center of town Garbsen located recreation area . History and description

Today's city ​​park was built on the site of a former clay pit with a neighboring brick factory , the Hannoversche Dampfziegelei, which was founded as a GmbH in 1885 when the German Empire was founded . On the premises of the company, which was operated until 1966, in the clay pit of the brickworks, similar to Berenbosteler See , the Black Lake was created , which later formed "the nucleus of the city park".

The redesign of part of the former brickworks site was carried out in two construction phases from 1984 to 1988 and 1993 to 1995, particularly around the Black Lake.

The main entrance area of ​​the city park on Kastendamm was upgraded with a fountain, a light column and herbaceous beds. To the west of it a new path has been laid that leads through an old orchard and a grove of oaks . In spring, yellow wild tulips and the blue bell scilla bloom there .

From the former use by industry on the site of today's city park, the ruins of a former ring furnace have been preserved, the vault of which is used by bats as a quarter today "represents an important biotope for species and habitat protection ."
