In the founding period from 1849, dials for the watch industry were first produced . The main customer was the Junghans watch company, founded in Schramberg in 1861.

From 1871 the product range was expanded, signs and scales for precision devices such as measuring devices, scales and telephones were mass-produced. In 1936 the first scales and front plates using galvanic etching technology were introduced. 1958 saw the start of production of the first single-sided printed circuit boards .

In 1979 a new plant was built at the current location and it was also the start of the production of printed circuit boards using multilayer technology. In 1982 Pentex-Schweizer Circuits Ltd, a joint venture company in Singapore, was founded. In 1988 the new branch in Dunningen followed .

In 1989 the company was converted into a public limited company.

In 1996 Schweizer Electronic left the employers' association and has not been obliged to pay the collective wages of the metal and electrical industry ever since.

In August 2005 there was the biggest fire damage in the history of Schramberg. The major fire in the company building had to be extinguished with the help of several volunteer fire brigades from the area and around 250 emergency services. The major fire had completely destroyed production. Operations could only be resumed in 2007.

In 2009 Schweizer Electronic entered into a partnership with Meiko Electronics Co., Ltd. in Japan.

In the course of 2014 Schweizer Electronic entered into a partnership with the company Wus Printed Circuit (Kunshan) Co., Ltd. Only a few months later, in November of the same year, the partnership with Infineon Technologies AG was concluded.

In 2017, the company employed 797 people and achieved sales of 120.9 million euros. The equity ratio was 54.9%.

The company, founded in 1849, is now run by the sixth generation of the Schweizer families. Schweizer Electronic AG is the third largest producer of printed circuit boards in Europe. Together with the cooperation partner Meiko Electronics, Schweizer is among the top 20 printed circuit board manufacturers worldwide. The automotive industry is one of the main customers .
