David von der Marwitz (* 1649 in Bärfelde in der Neumark ; † October 1, 1707 in Driesen ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

David came from the Brandenburg noble family von der Marwitz . He was the son of David von der Marwitz of the same name (born September 26, 1602 - April 18, 1672), Lord of Bärfelde and Babbin and Castle captain of Sonnenburg , and his wife Anna Sophie, née von Wulffen , widowed von Schapelow (* 24 October 1617 - April 18, 1675). His brother Bernd von der Marwitz also became major general.

Military career

Marwitz was in the service of Brandenburg , became a lieutenant in 1674 and distinguished himself the following year in the battle of Fehrbellin against the Swedes . In 1678 he became Rittmeister in the “Derfflinger on Horseback” regiment. As Oberstwachtmeister Marwitz was in the Turkish War in 1686 and gained the trust of Elector Friedrich Wilhelm through his careful management . Marwitz came to the "Alt-Holstein" regiment in 1688 and became a colonel there on September 18, 1691 . As such he took part in the 1692/95 campaign in the siege of Huy . On March 14, 1695 he became chief of the Brandenburg battalion (previous regiment "Derfflinger on foot"). For his services, Marwitz received the Order de la Générosité on January 18, 1703 . In the same year, on May 25, 1703, he was appointed commandant of Driesen. In this position, Marwitz became major general on December 20, 1704.

Marwitz married Anna Maria von Waldow from the house of Gleißen-Mittenwalde († July 20, 1710) on May 20, 1672 .
