Sciascinoso is an autochthonous red wine variety from the Italian region of Campania . It is usually with the wines of the varieties Piedirosso or Aglianico blended . Unmixed gives the late-maturing and high-yielding varieties dark-colored red wines intended for quick consumption. The planted area is approx. 440 hectares (as of 1999).

Sciascinoso is also known under the names Avellinese, Cascolo, Cascolone, Crovina, Fosco Peloso, Foscopeloso, Livella, Livella di Battipaglia, Livella Nera, Livellone, Olivella, Olivella Bastarda, Olivella Negra, Olivella Nera, Olivella Nostrana, Olivellone, Orpina, Orsina , Sancinoso, Sancionosa, Sanginoso, Sangionoso, Sanguinosa, Sarcinosa, Sciascinuso, Sciasconoso, Strascinatolo, Strascinuso, Uva di Avellino, Uva di San Severino, Uva Olivella, Uva Olivella Verace, Uva Pane Rossa, Uva Sanseverino and Vulivella are known.

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is woolly hairy with a slightly reddish tinge. The whitish young leaves are also hairy.
  • The medium to large leaves are five-lobed and heavily cupped (see also the article leaf shape ). The stem bay is open in a U-shape. The blade is serrated. In autumn the leaves turn orange to deep red.
  • The cylindrical grape is large, dense and shouldered. The oval berries are medium in size and deep blue to purple in color.

The Sciascinoso ripens approx. 30 - 35 days after the Gutedel and thus belongs to the grape varieties of the middle third ripening period that ripen late.
