Scomberomorus koreanus is a marine predatory fish from the mackerel and tuna families. In the red list it is listed as “not endangered”. It is moreimportant tohumans than sport fish ; it is less important in commercial fishing.

Scomberomorus koreanus has a spindle-shaped body that is slightly more stocky and high-backed than that of many other Scomberomorus species. The animal reaches a maximum length of 150 centimeters. The first seven of the total of 14 to 17 hard rays of the first dorsal fin are quite long, the remaining ones are very short. The high second dorsal fin consists of 20 to 24 soft rays , followed by seven to nine rafts. The anal fin opposite the second dorsal fin also has 20 to 24 soft rays and is followed by seven to nine flippers. The caudal fin is large and deeply split. As with the other Scomberomorus species, the pelvic fins are very small. The pectoral fins start roughly in the middle of the body. In contrast to most of the other species of the genus Scomberomorus , the lateral line in Scomberomorus koreanus is very regular. The species does not have a swim bladder . The flanks are silver, the back blue. There are dark spots along the sideline.
Distribution, habitat and biology
Scomberomorus koreanus is common in the western and indo-Pacific . It inhabits the waters along the continental shelf around Korea and southern Japan, China, Southeast Asia, Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Overall, little is known about the biology of this species. It is a predatory fish that feeds mainly on small schooling fish such as anchovies .
