Scott Derrickson (born July 16, 1966 in Denver ) is an American screenwriter and director .

Life

His breakthrough as a director came in 2000 with the film Hellraiser V - Inferno . In the same year he wrote the screenplay for the horror film Düstere Legenden 2 . In 2004, the film Land of Plenty was directed by Wim Wenders and based on a story by Derrickson. In 2005 he directed the horror thriller The Exorcism by Emily Rose , based on a true story . In 2008 he filmed Robert Wise's science fiction classic The Day the Earth Stood Still . The comic film adaptation of Doctor Strange , which he directed, was released in 2016 . In November 2018, his home fell victim to the California wildfire .
