Scott O'Dell

Scott O'Dell (born May 23, 1898 in Los Angeles - † October 16, 1989 ) was an American writer .

O'Dell wrote many teenage novels, often dealing with the Indians of North America, and a history of California .

Island of the Blue Dolphins was his first book for young people andwas awarded the German Youth Literature Prize and the Newbery Medal in1963. The book The Black Pearl was even made into a film. Other books include Go Home, Navaho Girls, and The Abandoned Boat on the Beach . Scott O'Dell received the Hans Christian Andersen Prize in 1972for his complete works.
