Scotty Rankine

Scotty Rankine (actually Robert Scade Rankine; born January 6, 1909 in Hamilton , Scotland , † January 10, 1995 in Wasaga Beach ) was a Canadian long-distance runner of British origin.

In 1932 he was eleventh over 5000 m at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles . At the British Empire Games in London in 1934 , he won silver over six miles and was fourth over three miles.

In 1936 he retired at the Olympic Games in Berlin over 5000 m in the run; Over 10,000 m he had to give up injured. At the British Empire Games in Sydney in 1938 , he won silver over six miles and bronze over three miles.

In 1932 and 1934 he was Canadian champion over three miles, in 1936 over 10,000 m and 1940 over six miles. In 1939 he won the Canadian marathon championship . In 1940 he defended this title and finished seventh in the Boston Marathon . In 1945 he was fourth in Boston and third in the Yonkers Marathon .

He won the Around the Bay Road Race seven times (1936, 1938–1940, 1942, 1944, 1948).

In 1935 he was awarded the Lionel Conacher Award for the best Canadian athlete of the year.
