Creation and publication

After Manic Impressions , Anacrusis toured the US to support Megadeth and Overkill . Then work began on the fourth album. Although he played the drums for Screams and Whispers , he was not involved in the songwriting . The album was recorded in Anacrusis' hometown of St. Louis and mixed in Lake Geneva with the help of Bill Metoyer . In the year of the release, the band broke up. style

Anacrusis play on Screams and Whispers Progressive Metal with "Thrash riffs [,] alternative Jane's Addiction sounds, brutal industrial grooves and catchy melodies". The album is less fast, technical and dark than its predecessor, but still seems more musically adept. Some keyboard orchestrations are also used now. The rhythms and the singing are very variable.

reception

The album was positively received by the press in 1993 and is now considered a classic of Progressive Metal, but did not give the band the breakthrough they had hoped for. Georg Heep from Babyblauen Seiten praises the "alternately crude screeching and beautiful voice, the depressive melodies and the groovy Thrash riffs", Peter Kubaschk from powermetal.de the solos, the dynamics and the sound and recommends "this work of the gods to every metal fan who is technically experienced music like DEATH , ZERO HOUR or WATCHTOWER , more experimental bands like CYNIC or PESTILENCE (in the 'Spheres' times) or thrash combos from the CORONER brand . "Frank Albrecht from Rock Hard says, Anacrusis offer" everything you can get from one Metal disc: they are original, heavy and all of them talented instrumentalists ”. Both Rock Hard and eclipsed magazine included Screams and Whispers in their respective lists of major prog metal albums.
