Seaside Hotels
Seaside Hotels is a German group of individual hotels based in Hamburg . Theo Gerlach founded the hotel group in the early 1970s. His son, Gregor Gerlach, has been running the company with his sister Anouchka since 1999.
Theo Gerlach, who was born in Hamburg, started out as a home builder in the late 1950s. After a few years he founded Gerlach Wohnungsbau GmbH. When Gerlach visited the Spanish island of Gran Canaria in July 1970 , he bought two properties in Maspalomas . The first hotels in the Seaside chain were built on this site: “Don Gregory” (1974) and “Palm Beach” (1975). In 1986 the third hotel in Maspalomas followed, "Sandy Beach". In 1992 Gerlach opened a hotel in Chemnitz, another house in Lanzarote and one in Leipzig followed in 1994 and 1995, respectively. In 1998 the Hotel Don Gregory was sold again, and in 2001 the "Residencia" opened in Maspalomas instead. In 2001 the Seaside Group opened its first five-star hotel in Hamburg. In 2010 a second house followed in Leipzig. In 2012 the five-star hotel Aalernhüs in Sankt Peter-Ording joined the Seaside Group. The house run by Claudia Gerlach, wife of Gregor Gerlach and daughter-in-law Theo Gerlach, had been opened by her parents 27 years earlier as the "Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten". In 2015 Gerlach senior handed over part of his company to his son Gregor Gerlach, who took over the management of the residential construction company and the management of the hotels in Germany.
Today the Seaside Hotels Group, which according to press reports had over 1,000 employees in 2014, owns both resort hotels and city hotels with hotels in Gran Canaria , Lanzarote and in the cities of Hamburg , Dresden , Leipzig , Chemnitz and St. Peter-Ording . The individual hotels are mostly organized as legally independent companies, each of which is managed by Theo and Gregor Gerlach. The Seaside Hotels Group's central marketing is carried out by Seaside Hotels GmbH & Co. KG, based in Hamburg.
The Seaside Grand Hotel Residencia , named “Best TUI Hotel” in 2017 , is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World group . The five-star Hotel Side Hamburg belongs to the group of design hotels . The five-star hotel, which was newly opened by Seaside Hotels in the Gewandhaus Dresden at the beginning of 2015 , has been the second German hotel in the Autograph Collection, a group of individual boutique hotels worldwide, since July 8, 2015.
