Sebastian George von Wedel (born May 17, 1745 in Schwerin ; † 1808 ) was a Prussian district administrator in Western Pomerania and was in charge of the Saatzig district from 1781 until his death .

Life

He came from the noble Wedel family . His father, Friedrich Leopold von Wedel (1714–1760), had been a Prussian officer and had been managing his Pomeranian estates of Cremzov , Schwerin , Replin and Suckow since he left . His mother Auguste Margarete was born from Kleist .

Sebastian George von Wedel attended secondary school in Berlin from 1757 to 1759 . Then he joined the infantry regiment "von Kobloch" of the Prussian Army and took part in the Seven Years' War . In 1764 he had to resign as an ensign for health reasons .

When the paternal inheritance was divided up, Wedel received the Schwerin estate in 1769 , which he managed himself.

In 1781 Wedel succeeded Caspar Heinrich von Mellenthin, district administrator of the Saatzig district. Caspar Heinrich von Mellenthin had tried to get his son Caspar Heinrich Friedrich von Mellenthin through as his successor, who was initially also elected, but was not appointed by King Friedrich II . The election of Wedel in June 1781 was controversial, as not all district estates should have been invited, but was recognized by the king.

For his Schwerin estate, Wedel received 5,800 Reichstaler amelioration money from the king in 1781 at an interest rate of one percent. With this money, he first built a Vorwerk in the northeast of the manor district on the site of the village Elmershagen, which was abandoned in the 17th century, and a few years later in the west of the manor district the Schwerinshof Vorwerk . When he got into economic difficulties, the vernacular gave his three estates the names "cross, misery and misery". The name “Kreuz”, also in Low German “Krütz”, stuck to the Vorwerk Elmershagen, so that it has been called Kreutz ever since .

Sebastian George von Wedel was married to Catharina Sabina Charlotte, née von Lepel , since 1769 . The marriage resulted in four sons and three daughters.
