Sebastian Lutz (called Hebenstreit from Tübingen ) SOCist (* around 1500 in Tübingen; † November 15, 1560 ) was 1542–1547 abbot in Tennenbach Abbey and 1547–1560 abbot in Bebenhausen Abbey .

Live and act

Sebastian Lutz came from a respected family who belonged to the respectability in Tübingen and is also mentioned in documents in Rottenburg am Neckar , Stuttgart and several imperial cities. Orphaned in 1502 and raised by friends.

In 1518 he entered the Cistercian Abbey of Bebenhausen. After professing he was enrolled in Heidelberg in 1521 . Soon after completing his studies, he became a chaplain in the Bebenhausen monastery from 1522 to 1534. When the abbey was dissolved, Sebastian Lutz remained loyal to the Cistercian order. At the turn of the year 1535/36 he moved via Salem Abbey to Stams Abbey in Tyrol , where he became Zellerar in 1537 . He finally asked for health reasons to be released from his duties, which was granted to him in 1538, after which he went to Salem Abbey , where he worked at school for four years.

After an interim caused by the Reformation, Lutz was elected Abbot of Bebenhausen on November 17, 1547, but he could not return to Bebenhausen until the beginning of 1549 with the rest of the old Bebenhausen convent. He died on November 15, 1560 and was buried in the Tübingen collegiate church .
