Sebastian Scheffer (also Sebastianus Schefferus ; born January 2, 1631 in Frankfurt am Main ; † January 10, 1686 ibid) was a German doctor .

Life

Scheffer was born the son of Wilhelm Ernst Scheffer (1590–1664), a Frankfurt doctor. His father initially ensured his education and upbringing. In 1648 he went to the University of Strasbourg where he began studying philosophy . This was followed by studying medicine at the universities in Leipzig and Helmstedt . He went on a scientific study trip to the Netherlands and France . After his return, he was at the University of Heidelberg to the Dr. med. PhD .

Scheffer established himself as a general practitioner in his hometown of Frankfurt. He initially helped his father and continued to strive for science. After his father's death in 1664 he was appointed city ​​physician of Frankfurt. He was a member of the Recuperati Academy . On April 5, 1680, Sebastian Scheffer with the academic surname Perseus II was accepted as a member ( matriculation number 92 ) in the Leopoldina . For the latter he wrote a series of essays.
