Sebastian Scheffer (medical doctor)
Sebastian Scheffer (also Sebastianus Schefferus ; born January 2, 1631 in Frankfurt am Main ; † January 10, 1686 ibid) was a German doctor .
Life
Scheffer was born the son of Wilhelm Ernst Scheffer (1590–1664), a Frankfurt doctor. His father initially ensured his education and upbringing. In 1648 he went to the University of Strasbourg where he began studying philosophy . This was followed by studying medicine at the universities in Leipzig and Helmstedt . He went on a scientific study trip to the Netherlands and France . After his return, he was at the University of Heidelberg to the Dr. med. PhD .
Scheffer established himself as a general practitioner in his hometown of Frankfurt. He initially helped his father and continued to strive for science. After his father's death in 1664 he was appointed city physician of Frankfurt. He was a member of the Recuperati Academy . On April 5, 1680, Sebastian Scheffer with the academic surname Perseus II was accepted as a member ( matriculation number 92 ) in the Leopoldina . For the latter he wrote a series of essays.
