Sebastian Schröder (born July 2, 1964 in Lübeck ) is a German administrative officer . From 2011 to 2019 he was State Secretary in the Ministry of Education in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

Life and work

After graduating from high school in Berlin in 1982 , Schröder studied law and musicology at the Free University of Berlin , and in 1988 he passed the first state examination in law. He then continued his studies at the University College of Wales. From 1989 he completed his legal preparatory service at the Berlin Higher Regional Court. In 1992 he completed his legal training with the second state examination.

In the same year Schröder became a lawyer in the legal office of the Hanseatic city of Rostock . From 1993 to 1995 he was the office manager of the chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. In 1996 he returned to Rostock and became Chancellor of the University of Music and Theater . Schröder is married to Ina-Maria Ulbrich , State Secretary in the Ministry of Energy, Infrastructure and Regional Development in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

From 2001 to 2006, Schröder was Senator for Finances, Administration and Order of the Hanseatic City of Rostock and at the same time 2nd Deputy Mayor.

In February 2006 Schröder was appointed State Secretary in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Ministry of Economics, led by Otto Ebnet (SPD). After the state elections in 2006, the red-red coalition that had been in office since 1998 was replaced by a grand coalition. The Ministry of Economic Affairs went to Jürgen Seidel ( CDU ). Ebnet became Minister for Transport, Building and Regional Development in November 2006 and took his State Secretary Schröder with him. This remained in office even after Ebnet's departure from the state government under his successor Volker Schlotmann (SPD). After the state elections in 2011, he moved to the Ministry of Education on October 26, 2011 as State Secretary of the new Minister Mathias Brodkorb .

In March 2019, he announced that he would go “on unpaid leave for family reasons until the end of the election period”. In August 2019, Susanne Bowen took over the post of State Secretary.
