Volker Schlotmann (born October 19, 1956 in Duisburg ) is a German politician ( SPD ). From 2008 to October 2011 he was Minister for Transport, Building and Regional Development in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and then Minister for Energy, Infrastructure and Regional Development until December 2013 . In 2014 he completely withdrew from state politics for health reasons.

Life and work

After completing secondary school and an apprenticeship as an inland navigation operator, Schlotmann first worked as a helmsman and later as a postal worker at the German Federal Post Office . He then completed a DGB scholarship to study at the Dortmund Social Academy . Later he studied at the University of Economics and Politics in Hamburg , supported by a scholarship from the Hans Böckler Foundation . From 1988 Schlotmann worked as a full-time union secretary at the then horticultural, agricultural and forestry union in the Bavarian region. From 1990 he moved to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania as regional district manager, where he was active until 1995. From 1996 to 1997 he was state secretary of the IG Bauen-Agrar-Umwelt .

Schlotmann has been married since 1976 and has three grown children.

politics

Schlotmann was elected to the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania state parliament in 1994 . His constituency Bad Doberan II is in the Rostock district. In the parliamentary group, he initially took on the tasks of spokesman for forest and fishing policy and housing policy and headed the parliamentary committee of inquiry “Incidents in the Ministry of the Interior”. In 1996 he was elected parliamentary manager and in 1998 parliamentary group chairman. Since October 6, 2008, he has been Minister, initially for Transport, Building and Regional Development in the Sellering I cabinet , and since 2011 for Energy, Infrastructure and Regional Development in the Sellering II cabinet . On December 10, 2013, he announced his resignation from his ministerial office at the end of the year. In March 2014, he resigned his mandate in the Schwerin state parliament. Patrick Dahlemann was his successor . In August 2014 it became known that Schlotmann had been working as communications director for a wind and solar park developer since April 2014.
