Patrick Dahlemann (born July 18, 1988 in Pasewalk ) is a German politician ( SPD ). He is a member of the Vorpommern-Greifswald district council and the city council of the Vorpommern city of Torgelow . Since April 2014 Dahlemann has been a member of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Parliament and since November 2016 Parliamentary State Secretary for the Western Pomerania region in the State Chancellery .

Life and education

Dahlemann grew up as the son of a forestry worker and a secretary in Torgelow in Western Pomerania and finished his school education in 2008 with the Abitur at the "Greifen-Gymnasium" in Ueckermünde .

From 2008 to 2014 Dahlemann studied political science and public law ( BA , 6 semesters) at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University Greifswald for twelve semesters without obtaining a degree. In 2011/12 and 2014 he was threatened with forced de-registration at the University of Greifswald due to unsuccessful exams, which he anticipated by “switching” to the distance- learning university in Hagen . The fact that he did not publish the end of his studies in Greifswald until two years later in the summer of 2016 and that he had not corrected the curriculum vitae on his website and the website of the state parliament MV until then, earned him criticism. In July 2018, Dahlemann finally announced that he had finished his studies after 20 semesters without a degree.

He lives in Torgelow with his wife Corinna Dahlemann.

politics

At the age of 16 Dahlemann joined the SPD and was thus for a short time the youngest member in the Uecker-Randow district . Since 2009 he has been a member of the city council in Torgelow and of the local committee for social affairs, education, culture and sport. Since 2009 he has also been a member of the district council of the Uecker-Randow district and the district's youth welfare committee. For the state elections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 2011 , he ran as a direct candidate for the state electoral district of Uecker-Randow I , but the mandate went to his challenger from the CDU.

Since 2011 Dahlemann has been an elected member of the district council of the newly formed district of Vorpommern-Greifswald and is the first deputy chairman of the youth welfare committee. From October 2011 to April 2014, he also worked as the office manager of the state parliament member Katharina Feike .

Dahlemann achieved media interest across Germany in January 2014 when he published a self-edited Internet video on YouTube with a speech at a national election campaign of the NPD on July 31, 2013. When the NPD held an election campaign event in Torgelow on July 31, 2013, Dahlemann took advantage of the offer and spoke in a free speech to NPD supporters and residents against the slogans of the NPD and against stirring up fears of a home for asylum seekers to be set up in the city. He offered the residents an open dialogue on this topic and other problems. Dahlemann posted an annotated video of the speech that contained the NPD's recordings on YouTube, which was clicked around 180,000 times before it was deleted. The video and its success aroused media interest throughout Germany. The video is now available again on YouTube.

On April 9, 2014, Dahlemann replaced the previously resigned MP Volker Schlotmann in the Schwerin state parliament.

In the state elections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 2016 , he won the direct mandate for the SPD in the state electoral district of Vorpommern-Greifswald IV for the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania with 31.0% of the first votes in front of the candidates from AfD (29.3%) and CDU (18, 5%). Dahlemann's direct mandate is one of only three SPD direct mandates in Western Pomerania , which caused a corresponding media response.

On October 18, 2016, Prime Minister Erwin Sellering announced that Dahlemann would hold the post of Parliamentary State Secretary for Western Pomerania in the Sellering III cabinet . After Manuela Schwesig took over the office of Prime Minister , Dahlemann remained Parliamentary State Secretary. As a "caretaker on site" he should also refute the accusation that Schwerin is neglecting the more remote part of the country in the east. Since taking office, he has completed a large number of on-site appointments and launched the Western Pomerania Fund. In April 2018, the newly founded Western Pomerania Council met for the first time in Anklam. It consists of ten members from Western Pomerania.

Awards

In 2014 , the SPD honored Dahlemann with the Gustav Heinemann Citizens' Prize for his work against the right-wing extremist NPD . In 2017 Dahlemann was awarded the Theodor Heuss Medal by the Theodor Heuss Foundation .
