Norbert Nieszery (born September 9, 1960 in Schleswig ) is a German politician ( SPD ). He was mayor of the municipality of Pellworm from 2018 to 2020 , was previously a member of the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania from 2002 to 2016 and chairman of the parliamentary group from October 2008.

Life and professional history

Nieszery graduated from the Schleswig Cathedral School with a secondary school leaving certificate and worked for the Federal Border Guard from 1977 to 1984 . In 1983 he made up his Abitur at the State Evening High School in Lübeck.

In 1984 he began studying prehistory , modern German literature and ancient history at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel . After receiving his doctorate there in 1992 with a dissertation on linear ceramic grave fields in Bavaria, he worked as a research assistant in Saarland. From October 1993 he was employed at the State Office for Land Monument Preservation in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, where he headed the Stralsund department. From 1995 he worked as a freelance scientist.

Norbert Nieszery is a Protestant, married and has three children.

politics

Nieszery has been a member of the SPD since 1999. From October 1999 to 2001 he was deputy chairman of the SPD district association Güstrow and from October 2001 its district chairman. Since 2000 he has also been a member of the Güstrow district council. He is also deputy chairman of the Güstrow district association of the German War Graves Commission .

From October 22, 2002, Nieszery was a member of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania state parliament . There he was chairman of the interior committee from November 2006 to October 2008. He was also spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group for health and military policy. On October 14, 2008 he was elected group chairman. In the state elections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 2006 , he moved into the state constituency of Güstrow II via a direct mandate and was able to defend the electoral district mandate in 2011 . For health reasons, he did not run for the 2016 election.

In 2018, the SPD achieved a majority in the municipal council of the North Frisian island of Pellworm for the first time and pushed through the election of Nieszery as mayor of the municipality . He resigned on May 17, 2020, as many islanders rejected his strict measures against the COVID-19 pandemic .
